The Stuttgart Tee
Nowhere Logs 001: Starting our journey
Entering the product development space alongside creative media was always part of our vision for Nowhere Ordinary. We will never put an artificial ceiling on what we can create, but setting some strict parameters to get started is the sensible thing to do. We decided to begin this journey in the apparel design and production space (hardly an original idea, we know). For decades now, millions of artists across the globe have left their mark on this industry in some way, and we have come to learn how difficult it is to be original and unique. We are by no means fashion experts, and don’t think we will push the envelope in that aspect, however we are in the business of creativity and experience. And so we are constantly mindful of why we are doing this to begin with, and how that in turn will embed its own unique spin on our future products.
The story behind our first design starts in Germany and is important to us because it strongly reflects what we stand for as a brand. During a holiday trip to Europe in 2023, we took a detour to Stuttgart to visit the Porsche Museum. Visiting the home of Porsche was something we always wanted to do growing up, and this was the perfect opportunity to make that dream a reality. Within moments of arriving in Stuttgart, we spotted this grey 911, carefully parked with a wreath decoration draped over its front cowling. Naturally, we spent some time admiring the view and snapping a few photos.
Shortly after we stopped, a man stepped out of the building and kindly asked if we would stick around to photograph their bridal party with the car. It turns out he was the groom who had just been married, and this 911 was the chariot for their special day! We had a great exchange with the family and despite the language barrier, our common interests allowed us to understand each other just fine. Experiences like these cannot be planned, and often pop up and random times. What we do know for certain is that Nowhere Ordinary exists to create more experiences and memories like this one. So we decided that it was only fitting to make the bridal 911 the subject of our first apparel product - The Stuttgart Tee.
After a careful selection process for the shirt blanks, we worked with our good friend Enzo Delyfer to turn this scene into a printable asset. We then began stress testing the prototype shirts with daily wearing and washing. Once we were happy with the overall feeling and quality, our friends over at Short Batch in Perth helped us deliver the first production run. We were incredibly pleased with the end result, and it gave us a load of inspiration to start iterating our next design.
