An Introduction to Nowhere Ordinary
Behind the scenes, we often find ourselves looking back at memorable periods of motorsport, feeling like we missed out on the glory days. Brock’s domination at Bathurst or Senna’s rivalries in Formula 1 are examples of spectacles we weren’t alive to witness ourselves. And so we experience these memories second hand, through stories, pictures, and film.
Nostalgia is a complex emotional state, blending joy and comfort with a sense of loss. It’s fascinating to think about how humans often struggle to stay engaged with the present moment, only to look back on it later with fondness and longing. This makes us wonder if the people who experienced these iconic motorsport eras first-hand, were as excited about it as the people who appreciate them in retrospect. And so, our philosophy is to maximise our experiences and enjoy the memories that are forged in the present moment, knowing that they will become the nostalgia we long for tomorrow.
Many motoring enthusiasts embody this philosophy well. Driving a car is nothing but a mundane necessity for most - a means to get from point A to point B. For enthusiasts that share our passion, it’s the rich detail that fills the space between point A and point B that gives us satisfaction. The momentary sensation of weightlessness while cornering a backroad, feeling your tyres change shape through the steering wheel, or the sound and vibration of the engine as it screams toward redline, are moments we live for. This form of focused meditation, fuelled by adrenaline, lets us feel alive in a world that’s becoming increasingly desensitised.
This gorgeous 1995 Porsche Carrera 4 belongs to our close friend’s father, who kindly let us borrow it for the promotional photos of our first T-shirt release. We took the car out on a Sunday morning to catch the sunrise in Fremantle, stopping along the way to take photos. We managed to capture some of our all-time favourite shots that day and afterwards stopped off for coffee at a local café.
It later became clear to us that the experience of the morning would be what we’d remember and value most. Waking up before sunrise to meet friends at a cool location, cruising through town, and enjoying coffee afterward is what it’s all about to us. The small details stand out, like the raspy sound of that flat-six engine echoing off the buildings or the soft morning light reflecting off the woodgrain and black leather interior.
To us, the words “Nowhere Ordinary” represent a mindset. One which encourages us to appreciate the details and interactions that occur within the spaces we find ourselves in every day. Experiences like this photoshoot embody what we stand for as a brand, and we intend to make this a regular part of our lives. Through our creative work, we aim to document the legacy of motorsport and car culture within our community. While doing so, we hope this creates more special moments to fully absorb in the present, while also recognising it as tomorrow’s nostalgia in the making.
